A bodybuilding champion has mysteriously died at the age of 30 after drowning in a shallow lake while out on a fishing trip.
Romanian athlete Catalin Stefanescu, a former national bodybuilding champion in the 80 kg weight category, was found 3ft deep in a lake in the country’s Dambovita County on Sunday, according to local outlet Targoviste News.
He is said to have been fishing with a friend at the time, who returned to find his pal unconscious in the water after briefly heading home.
After an ambulance was rushed to the area, Stefanescu was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are now conducting investigations into what caused the bodybuilder to drown in the lake.
Representatives from the Dambovita County Police said in a statement: ‘The police were notified by the administrator of a lake about a deceased person.
‘Upon arrival at the scene, the police found that a 30-year-old man, while fishing on a lake in Lazuri, had been found drowned.
‘Investigations are underway to establish precisely all the circumstances of the event.’
Stefanescu, who represented Romania in the Classic Bodybuilding over 180 cm category, placed first in 80kg at the At the National Fitness and Bodybuilding Championship.
At the time of his passing he was plying his trade as a fitness trainer in his home city of Targoviste. Stefanescu leaves behind a wife and a daughter.
