Pay cut: Susan Davy, who has run water firm Pennon Group for nearly three years agreed to forgo her £450,000 bonus

Pennon Group’s boss saw her pay fall by nearly two-thirds after she gave up her bonus because of outrage over the firm’s record of sewage dumping in rivers.

Last month Susan Davy, pictured, who has run the South West Water owner for nearly three years, joined several other industry executives in deciding to forgo her £450,000 bonus amid growing public anger over the state of the industry.

The decision contributed to her pay packet dropping to £543,000 last year from £1.53million a year earlier as Davy was only paid her base salary, benefits and pension.

Earlier this month, Pennon sparked outrage by hiking its dividend for the year by 10 per cent to £111.7million despite South West Water being fined £2.15million in April for illegally dumping sewage in rivers and the sea around Devon and Cornwall.

The firm is also facing an investigation by the industry regulator Ofwat into whether South West Water was accurately reporting leaks and the volume of water used by customers.
