A federal grand jury indicted Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez on Friday on charges he accepted bribes from New Jersey businessmen in exchange for favors.

Prosecutors said Mr. Menendez engaged in a “corrupt” relationship with Wael Hana, Jose Uribe and Fred Daibes from 2018 to 2022, using his power and influence to benefit the men and the country of Egypt in exchange for hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes.

“Those bribes included cash, gold, payments toward a home mortgage, compensation for a low-or-no-show job, a luxury vehicle and other things of value,” the indictment, filed in the U.S. District Court of Southern New York, said.

Mr. Menendez, 69, who has served in the Senate since 2006, was indicted in 2015 on charges related to gifts from donor Salomon Melgen. A jury was unable to reach a verdict.
