Apple showed off its upcoming iPhone 15 this week to waves of fan support, but users will get an updated charging port with their new phone.

Apple’s latest device will use the USB-C charging port and cable, a change from the previous few iPhone models that used Apple’s Lightning charging port and cable.

The iPhone 15 and newest version of the Apple AirPods will use USB-C charging ports.

While the change may be to make finding a charger easier, as many other phones and devices use USB-C chargers, it comes on the heels of new European regulations.

The rules, passed by the Council of the European Union in 2022, standardize charging ports for all devices sold on the Continent. The law covers many of the products sold by Apple, including its phones and portable headphones.

Apple’s new phone with the updated charging ports will be released Sept. 22.
