Verizon was down for more than four hours across the US, leaving many customers unable to use their smartphones.

The outage began around 2pm ET, with few reports surfacing, but thousands quickly appeared – all claiming issues with cellular service.

The issue seemed to be fixed around 6pm ET – some users may still have disrupted service.

Reports showed that iPhone and Android users and some emergency service lines have been impacted.

Verizon has more than 143 million users in the US – but the amount hit by Friday’s outage is unknown.

Downdetector, a site that monitors online issues, reported the highest number of customers without service were in Omaha, San Diego, Portland, Phoenix and Louisville.

While Verizon did not address the outage on its social media, customers were able to check their location’s service on the company’s dashboard.

Verizon Support responded to some X users’ cries of distress, but no solution has been given.

‘We know just how important it is to be able to make and receive calls! Please send us a Direct Message to begin troubleshooting at your convenience. We’re always here and happy to help, 24/7,’ reads the post.
